All of our programs and events are held at Hay River KTC in Ridgeland, WI, unless otherwise noted.

In-person attendance is encouraged, but you may also join some events via Zoom. If Zoom is an option, this is noted in each event listing, along with the link.

Sunday Practice

We typically have weekly Sunday Practice from 10 to 11 a.m., and then a talk or teaching by Lama Yeshe from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All times noted are Central Time.

Sunday, Aug. 3 

​

10 am CDT, White Tara led by Lama Yeshe. The benefits of chanting White Tara are good health, long life and alleviation of fear.

​

11 am CDT, Talk by Lama Yeshe: Buddha Nature. Buddha Nature is the enlightened potential inherent in all sentient beings. This is the first of a series of teachings that will explore this topic in depth.

Tuesday, Aug. 5

​

6:30 CDT, Understanding and Working with Dying and Death. We will start on Chapter 10 of Preparing to Die: Practical Advice and Spiritual Wisdom from the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition by Andrew Holecek. Read Part 3, Heart advice from Spiritual Masters.

Sunday, Aug. 10

​

10 AM CDT, Chenrezig/Amitabha led by Carolyn Petersen. Chenrezig helps us deepen our compassion. Amitabha practice is aspiring that we and others be reborn in his pure land of Great Bliss.

11 am CDT, Talk by Lama Yeshe: Buddha Nature. This is the second teaching on this important subject.

Tuesday, Aug. 12

​

6:30 CDT, Understanding and Working with Dying and Death. We will be discussing Part 3, Heart advice from Spiritual Masters in Preparing to Die: Practical Advice and Spiritual Wisdom from the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition by Andrew Holecek.

Sunday, Aug. 17

​

10 am CDT, Meditation led by Lama Yeshe. Instructions will be given when needed.

11 am CDT, Talk by Lama Yeshe: Meditation. Our minds produce thoughts endlessly. It is good to take a break from these thoughts and rest our mind by following the breath. Mindfulness, awareness and vigilance assist us when meditating.

Tuesday, Aug. 19

 

6:30 CDT, Understanding and Working with Dying and Death. Will continue from last week. We will probable be discussing the Appendix at this point. I will review the Bardo Packet prepared under the direction of Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche this week or the next. 

​

Saturday, Aug. 23

 

10 am to 4 pm CDT, program at the Mpls Shambhala Center titled The Three Jewels: Why They are a Source of Refuge. A Buddha is beyond happiness and suffering, beyond birth and death. Buddha is the first jewel. We can become a Buddha by following the path. The buddha gave extensive teachings on how to travel the path. Dharma, the teachings of the Buddha, is the second jewel. The third jewel is the sangha; the teachers, monks, and nuns. The three jewels are reliable sources of refuge for life’s difficulties.

Sunday, Aug.  24

10 am CDT, Meditation led by Lama Yeshe. Instructions will be given when needed.

11 am CDT, Talk by Lama Yeshe: The practice of Tong Len. Tong Len is a practice that weakens our clinging to a solid, permanent self. It also strengths our love and compassion for others.

Tuesday, Aug. 26

​

6:30 CDT, Understanding and Working with Dying and Death. This will be the last part of the teachings on Preparing to die.

Sunday, Aug. 31

​

10 am CDT, Medicine Buddha led by Tom Charland. Medicine Buddha is done to avert or pacify illness.

​

11 am CDT, Talk by Lama Yeshe: Short Teachings of Gyalwang Karmapa. The talk will be quotes of Gyalwang Karmapa followed by short teachings on the quotes. The source is the book The Future Is Now by Karmapa.
