Lama Yeshe will present a series of talks based on the book The Heart Is Noble: Changing the World from the Inside Out by the head of The Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje. This book came about after a series of meetings with a group of sixteen American college students. It reflects many of their topics of interest. They were excited to explore their concerns with a teacher who could offer them new perspectives on the world and on their own lives. The May 16th class will cover the first two chapters, Our Shared Ground & A Meaningful Life: Anything is Possible. The Dalai Lama, who wrote the introduction, had this to say about the book in the book:
“I am sure that readers who pay attention to what is discussed here and try it out in their own lives will not only feel happier within themselves, but will also contribute to making a happier more peaceful world for the twenty-first century.”
Subsequent chapters address various topics that can seem problematic in today’s world: gender identities, consumerism, food justice, sustainable compassion, conflict resolution, and relationships. This series of teachings will be given on the third Saturday of each month at the Shambhala Center of Minneapolis from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
