We live in a complex world, a world that can cause our minds to succumb to the meaningless noise of money, possessions, competition, politics and consumerism. The impact on work, family and self can be overwhelming. The Hay River Karma Thegsum Chöling (KTC) Buddhist Meditation Center was established in 1997 by Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche to promote well being, compassion and wisdom through teachings on meditation and the practices of Buddhism. We serve Western Wisconsin and the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Whether you are new to meditation or an advanced practitioner of Buddhist Vajrayana practices, our purpose is to awaken the natural wisdom, peace and clarity within every person. In particular, under the guidance of Lama Tsultrim Yeshe, a fully ordained monk, we focus on the teachings of the Karma Kagyu, one of the four Tibetan Buddhist lineages. This tradition emphasizes meditation practice and putting the teachings into action in our daily life. In-person meetings take place either at the KTC Hay River site near Ridgeland, WI, or at the Shambhala Center in Minneapolis. Most meetings on the schedule are available on Zoom. Our practice activities follow this general format:
Sundays in-person at Hay River and via Zoom: 10 a.m. Teaching; 11 a.m. puja
White Tara - 1st Sunday
Chenrezig/Amitabha - 2nd Sunday
Medicine Buddha - last Sunday
Meditation - fills in between other practices
Tuesdays 6:30- 8 p.m. via Zoom: Book Class

The Karma Kagyu and KTD
Hay River KTC follows the Karma Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Karma Triyana Dharmachakra (KTD) is the North American seat of this lineage, located in Woodstock, NY. The lineage emphasizes practice – not only learning about Buddhist concepts, but also putting the teachings into action, both on the cushion and in daily life.
